I just got off the phone with a adjuster who refuses to pay the Sales tax on my cleaning bill. I have never ran into this one before he claims I am double taxing as the tax is already figured in the line item in Xactimate. I have always charged sales tax on the total without any dispute. Looking into the line item detail it appears the tax is already factored in. So my question is......Is the adjuster right?

The adjuster you are working with is either new, an idiot, or he thinks you are. I think what you are looking at is the price break down. This is where the estimate verifies to tax the item. You can manually take off the tax on a particular item if it applies. Some states for instance don't have sales tax. If you manually tell a line item to not tax, it will show up less tax at the tax line item on the estimate. In another words that breakdown you are looking at is telling the computer to compute tax on the line item. If you can't reason with the adjuster then you may need to talk to his supervisor. Don't back down.

Thanks Kevin. I wasnt about to cave in and agree with him, I told him if he didnt pay for it the homeowner would. Now I have the ammunition needed to get paid. I appreciate your help.

Sounds like tax revolt! Often times we pay taxes in other states just for the privilege of buying something there!
